Date scones

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups dates, chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 TBSP sugar
  • 1 TBSP cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • Zest of an orange
  • 1 1/4 cups milk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 220 fan bake & line a baking tray with baking paper
  2. Place chopped dates in a saucepan with the water on medium heat. Simmer until tender (10 ish mins) then drain excess water and set aside.
  3. Place flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cinnamon into a bowl. Run in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Add dates and orange zest and mix through.
  5. Add milk and quickly mix with a fork or knife until just combined. The mixture will be soft and sticky.
  6. Place in 12 blobs on the baking tray and bake for 10-15 mins until golden brown.
